There are many types of Valkyrie in the Norse mythology. The type of Valkyrie that appears in the "Valkyrie Profile" series is one who guides valkyries in their duties. The most well-known valkyrie is Brynhildr, who appeared in the Völsung Cycle. She was an exile warrior princess who had been cursed by Odin, causing her to forget about her love, Sigurd. She later married Gunnar, but when Sigurd returned with his new wife, Brynhildr couldn't hold herself back and tried to kill Sigurd's new bride with a spear. Odin, ever the trickster, cursed her so that she would not remember what she had done. Despite the curse, Brynhildr's love for Sigurd never faded.
